Semi-steel radial tire mold, also known as a Passenger Car Radial (PCR) mold, is a high-precision manufacturing tool specifically designed for producing radial tires for passenger cars, light trucks, and SUVs. The term "semi-steel" refers to the tire's carcass construction, where the belt layers use steel cord, but the carcass ply uses textile cord (polyester, nylon, or rayon), distinguishing it from "all-steel" tires used in heavy commercial vehicles

This type of mold is critical equipment in the tire vulcanization process, where it shapes the uncured "green tire" under high heat and pressure, imprinting the tire with its final tread pattern, sidewall markings, and dimensional contours. Semi-steel radial tire molds are predominantly manufactured as segmented (or "live") molds, which consist of multiple movable segments (tread blocks, side plates, and mold sleeves). This design allows the mold to open and close radially, minimizing tire deformation during demolding and ensuring excellent tire uniformity and dynamic balance

Materials: Molds can be manufactured from cast steel or aluminum alloy. Aluminum alloy molds are lighter, offer better adaptability for complex patterns, and are widely used for passenger car tires, though they are typically more expensive than steel molds.
Manufacturing Processes: Advanced techniques such as 5-axis CNC engraving and Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) are employed to create intricate tread patterns and achieve micron-level precision. For instance, state-of-the-art 5-axis engraving can achieve engraving accuracy of 0.1mm, ensuring crisp pattern details. CNC processing can achieve product dimension accuracy of IT6 grade, surface roughness of Ra1.6, and contour accuracy below 0.05mm.
Structure: The segmented (live) mold structure, which is standard for semi-steel radial tires, provides superior performance compared to older two-piece mold designs. It ensures smooth demolding, better tire shape retention, and longer mold service life
